AI accounting audit: anomalies in the trial balance before the tax authority finds them

Accounting errors surface during a State Revenue Committee audit, when fixing them is already expensive. Our auditor reads the trial balance and account cards with a direct query to the database, runs them through dozens of rules and explains each anomaly found in human language, before the report goes to the tax authority.

Where accounting cracks

  • An accounting error is found during a State Revenue Committee audit, not at month-end closing, when an additional assessment is already unavoidable.
  • Express Check and 1C:Reconciliation output a dry list of discrepancies without explaining what exactly is wrong and why.
  • Negative cash, a stuck transit account, a backdated posting get lost among thousands of trial balance lines.
  • To show the trial balance to an external service, it is exported to Excel and amounts and BINs are removed by hand.

What it does

  • Catches negative balances where there cannot be any: cash 1010, bank 1030, inventory 1310 and 1330.
  • Finds amounts without quantities on inventory accounts 1310 and 1330.
  • Flags write-offs at a price that differs from the average by more than 5%.
  • Highlights manual cash postings: the “Operation” type instead of cash receipt and cash disbursement orders.
  • Shows postings made at 23:59, on weekends and on public holidays of Kazakhstan.
  • Monitors transit accounts 1021 and 1022: the month-end balance must be zero, and an account open for more than 3 business days is flagged.
  • Looks for credit balances on expense accounts 7xxx and for one counterparty with both receivables and payables under one contract, so they can be netted.

How it works4 steps

  1. We read the trial balance directly from the database

Balances under the Kazakhstan chart of accounts (1010, 1310, 1330 and others) are taken with a direct query to the accounting register. No Excel export is needed.

  2. We run it through the rules engine

Dozens of deterministic checks: negative balances, amounts without quantities, manual cash postings, movements on weekends and public holidays of Kazakhstan.

  3. AI explains each finding

Claude turns a dry discrepancy into a clear statement: what the anomaly is, on which account, what risk it carries and where to look.

  4. You decide what to fix

The auditor only highlights: you make the changes in the database. Nothing changes without your confirmation, and the data stays in your perimeter.

Result

dozens of ready-made check rules in the audit engine

before filing anomalies are visible before the State Revenue Committee finds them

Who it is for

  • Chief accountants who want to close the month without surprises at an audit.
  • Companies with a large chart of accounts where an anomaly cannot be seen by eye in the trial balance.
  • Businesses that do not want to hand amounts and BINs to external services for a check.

Frequently asked questions3

How is this different from Express Check and 1C:Reconciliation?

Those tools are deterministic and silent: they output a list of discrepancies. We combine such a rules engine with AI that explains each anomaly in human language: what is wrong, where, and what risk it carries. The niche of an AI auditor is still essentially open.

Does the audit fix errors in the database by itself?

No. The auditor only finds and highlights anomalies. You decide what to fix and how, and changes are made with your confirmation. That way the check breaks nothing in your accounting.

Do I need to export the trial balance to Excel?

No. Balances are read with a direct query to the accounting register in your database. We tested this live on a copy of a database and found cash account 1010 with a negative balance in the very first run.
